Rocket City, Home of 101 Inventions

Local Blog 101 InnovationsAs the first incorporated city in Alabama, Huntsville has a long and illustrious history. Over the years, Huntsville has been home to important industries including the cotton, railroad, munitions, technology, space, and defense industries. Huntsville’s heavy involvement in the U.S. space missions of the mid-twentieth century earned it the nickname “The Rocket City.”

Since 1805, the city has grown from a small, quiet town to the city we enjoy today (one that has actually been named as “America’s Best City” by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance and to “America’s Dozen Distinctive Destinations for 2010” by The National Trust for Historic Preservation).

This month, you can learn more and celebrate our city’s innovative spirit and history by visiting the new exhibit at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

The USSRC is exhibiting several exciting traveling exhibits about important inventions throughout history—many of which were invented right here in Huntsville. Visit “101 Rocket City Inventions” to see the diverse range of inventions—from a poultry watering system to genomic sequencing—dreamt up in Huntsville. Then, check out “101 Inventions that Changed the World” to learn about the inventions that have shaped human history.

These exhibits are perfect for all ages, so bring your family and friends! Everyone, from history buffs to science fans, will find something interesting at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center.

You can find out more at the USSRC’s Traveling Exhibitions page. We hope that you have a wonderful time learning at one of Huntsville’s gems!
