The Madison County Probate Court serves the county’s 360,000 citizens through a variety of functions. For example, these include adoptions, elections, probating estates, eminent domain, land redemption, marriage licenses, legitimations, mental commitments, and guardianships/conservatorships.

Judge Barger was elected Madison County Probate Judge in November 2018. Prior to the election, he served as a senior staff member of the Probate Court and as Madison County’s Elections Administrator. Prior to being elected, Judge Barger personally handled more than 1,000 cases including wills and administrations, adoptions, mental health commitments, guardianships and conservatorships, and issues of eminent domain. He is credited with overhauling internal processes, maximizing the use of technology and revolutionizing elections management. Judge Barger is a proud son of North Alabama. Judge Barger and his wife Jennifer have been married for 16 years – their son, Grant, is a student of Huntsville City Schools.
